Continued Use of the Clickers in the Art Room

Again, I have to say that the clickers are an awesome tool that has changed the way that I teach.  I have attached two short videos both are very low quality, the flip cameras were checked out today so I tried to shoot video with a digital camera.  Sorry but the images are very grainy, but the sound on the second one is nice.  Anyway the students in grade levels 1-5 enter the art room everyday and the first thing they get are the clickers.  On the clickers they find a few short questions to review the previous weeks work.  The first video is of the students working on the clickers, all of the grades are usually silent and very focused on answering the questions.  The second video is a quick class meeting to review the answers from the clickers.  The students showed mastery of the questions that day with no problem. I, on the other hand, am having a difficult time with video, and scrolling through the questions on my computer, and asking the questions all at the same time.

During the last week of December and first week of January, the students and staff of Sappington took some time to enjoy a travelling art exhibit based on the works of Claude Monet.  For pictures of exhibit and examples of student interactions see my blog at http://sappingtonartroom.blogspot.com/2011/12/monet-exhibit-and-holiday-greetings.html and don't be afraid to join if you want.  While observing the exhibit students worked on a scavenger hunt of questions based on the works and life of Claude Monet.  In the future the nice newer style clickers will eliminate the paper copies, we are currently using.  The following class after the exhibit provided students the time to review their answers and to input their responses through the use of the older six button clickers.  The scavenger hunts for the last few exhibits may be viewed on the document manager page of my website at http://pages.lindberghschools.ws/education/components/docmgr/default.php?sectiondetailid=10853 .  I will also have full data results available on a flashdrive at our meeting.  I have had the opportunity to use this lesson on several occasions and have a considerable amount of sucess.  I believe the use of the newer clickers will help take this lesson to the next level and will provide further opportunities to do quick and simple assessments of students in an easy and efficient fashion.

My second challenge of this year has been development of simple art lessons incorporating the use of Microsoft Paint. These lessons were introduced in January and are currently being used by students as a supplemental activity once a student completes their assigned studio work.
Technology in the art room, who would have thought.
