6th grade graph project

6th Grade Graphing Project

My PLC created a graphing project as a PBA for our data unit.  Student groups (2-3) had to collect numerical data based on their own question, and then create a frequency table, histogram, stem and leaf plot, and a line plot.  They also had to calculate mean, median, mode, and range for the their data and write a paragraph that summarized their findings.  Advanced classes also had to create a box and whisker plot.  I told my students that they could bring in their own internet capable device for their project and gave them a website http://nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph/default.aspx that they could use to make their histogram using the bar graph template.  I had a few groups in each class take advantage of this option.  I am attaching pictures.

The project/lesson went well, and I have some exellent finished projects.  I was surprised that I had as may laptops come in, but our social studies teacher was also doing a BYOD activity too.  I had enough computers for group projects, but I would not have the capability to do individual work.  I would like to find other websites that would make different kinds of graphs.
