Bagot Writing Wiki

My project is in the subject of wrting.  I thought it would be neat to publish our written work.  As we move from writing into writers workshop, I think the wiki I set up will become a much better tool.  I developed a wiki page for my students to type their finsihed writing piece.  On the wiki page other students can read and comment on their writing.  Also, parents may look at their writing pieces in their folder and add comments as well.  We will continue to add stories to the wiki as they finish them throughout the school year.

To view my wiki go to bagot.pbworks.com
Mrs. Bagot's Wiki Page
To see the evdence of my students learning, please look at the wiki page and read several students' writing.  The photos show my students taking a writing piece and typing it to the wiki.

Reflection:  I think we will use the wiki page throughout the school year.  The first day we got the class set of laptops, it took us 50 minutes to log into the computer and then log into the website, but since then it has been taking less and less time.  However, it did take my class a week to type one story and it isn't something they can do independently yet.  The problems we had were not knowing how to work a computer, use the keys, or space bar, spell check, or read the screens for directions or using the mouse on the laptops.

My hope would be that our technology teacher could work with the students to show them basic typing keys to use, how to save their work and basic ways to navigate the site and shut down.

The students love using the computers however, it has taken a lot of instruction time to teach simple procedures on the computers.

Overall, this was a good experience and I am now having the classroom set of laptops come in weekly to get more familiar with them.  I think that doing this activity will make it easier to use the computers in the future.
